Staff outlined that the current quarterly base rate of $169.52 would rise under a 3.3% increase to $175.11, and that moving to 4% would provide a modest cushion; councilors noted 1% in this budget area equates to roughly $7,000 in revenue.
After discussion and recognition of higher costs for chemicals, sludge haulage and utilities, a motion to increase the sewer rate to 4% beginning in October passed on a roll-call vote. The council also voted to commit sewer fees for the fourth quarter of FY2026 to the treasurer in the amount of $168,595.32, a regulatory action required for sewer permitting.
Council members emphasized the need for better forward-looking budgeting for the sewer enterprise and for staff to review operational drivers behind high utility and maintenance costs at pump stations.
