Kinnikin Road project: contractor has exported 5,700 cubic yards of overburden; mitigation design work due mid-August

Mike Henson briefed commissioners on progress and geotechnical challenges for the Kinnikin Road project.
"The contractor has exported a little over 5,700 cubic yards of overburden," Henson said, noting that represented about 43% of the engineer's estimate. He added crews have placed roughly 300 feet of compacted rock fill and imported about 1,350 cubic yards of rock (approximately 10% of the estimate). Persistent groundwater and a slide two weeks earlier have increased export volumes.
Henson said the county is working with two design firms to evaluate mitigation on the uphill property that is contributing water and slope instability; staff expect cost and scope details by about Aug. 15. Commissioners asked about property-owner relations; Henson reported ongoing communications and that stakeholders’ concerns were being addressed.
No formal action was required at the work session.
