Attleboro Park Commission approves 13 permits, discusses $30,000 tree grant and maintenance work

At its June 17 meeting the Attleboro Park Commission voted unanimously to approve 13 permits for summer and fall uses of city park facilities, including outdoor fitness classes, an eight‑week yoga series, weekly Fun Run Crew sessions, multiple cross‑country and track meets at Mark Coogan Course, private parties and a community event on O'Connell Field.
Commissioner Rick Gariepy moved to approve permits 1 through 13 as written; Lee Ghazil seconded and the motion passed with 'All in favor.' Permits listed in the minutes include: Pura Vitality Wellness (outdoor fitness, Saturdays June 20–Aug. 29, 2026), Moksha Yoga (Tuesdays July 7–Aug. 25), Project Connect/Fun Run Crew (Wednesdays July 8–Aug. 19), Brown Running Club cross‑country meet (Sept. 26 at Mark Coogan Course), several Attleboro High School track meets (Sept. 15, Sept. 22, Oct. 20), Suffolk University college cross‑country meet (Sept. 5; rain date Sept. 6), USATF New England cross‑country race (Nov. 15), and private events including a wedding (July 16), a birthday party (July 26) and a family gathering (July 19). A community event by Wildflower Misfit Collective is scheduled Aug. 22 with a rain date of Aug. 29.
Parks Department staff reported that irrigation across parks is now operational and that maintenance work is underway. Staff said the department is fully staffed at present but that the foreman position will not be filled this year. The mayor obtained a $30,000 tree grant to support tree plantings citywide; using a rented tree spade, staff removed ten trees from the tree farm and replanted them in parks and sidewalk areas on Pleasant Street to replace trees lost previously. Staff also said the GWOT monument remains pending installation of pavers by Cryan Landscape.
The commission scheduled its next meeting for Aug. 19, 2026, and adjourned at 6:00 p.m.
