Staff outline North Campus layout, small offices and courthouse paving delay

Jennifer Murray, capital projects staff, told the Montrose County Board of County Commissioners at the July 21 work session that the North Campus office layout shows regular staff offices averaging about 109.6 square feet (rounded to 110), and that foundation pile installation is scheduled to begin Aug. 4.
Those are among several construction timing and design updates delivered during the board's capital projects briefing. Murray said steel deliveries for the North Campus are expected in November and that contractors are coordinating entrance and access work on Grand Avenue; she asked staff to give courthouse users, including judges, at least two to three weeks' notice of noisy pile-driving activity.
Murray emphasized that square-foot figures shown on the layout refer only to individual office areas and do not include common areas, hallways or shared conference spaces. "It is just shy of a 110 square feet per office," she said, noting the figure was an average rounded up from 109.6.
The presentation also flagged a delay at the historic courthouse area after an asphalt batch plant broke down last week. Murray said paving of the courthouse east parking lot did not occur as planned and that crews hope to lay asphalt this week; after that work is complete, rehabilitation of the clerk and recorder's parking lot will begin and staff parking will be staged on the newly finished lot with signage directing the public.
Murray said landscaping and finish work are moving forward: topsoil and plantings are scheduled soon, tile work on the grand staircase will begin this week, and drinking fountains and other finishes are being installed as the project enters its final weeks. She also described plans to relocate a monument currently on the Townsend side of the lot and incorporate it into the war memorial, and said staff are exploring temporary storage so landscaping does not have to be redone.
Board members asked whether existing furniture will fit into the averaged 110-square-foot offices for specific user groups; Murray said she will follow up with those staff members to get furniture dimensions and work on options. The board did not take a formal vote on any matter and asked staff to continue outreach to affected user groups about access and parking impacts.
