Board approves CTE plan, EC service contracts and names three student board members

On June 25 the Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools Board of Education approved the district's CTE local plan and the comprehensive local needs assessment (CLNA), accepted contracts for exceptional children (EC) services, and formally selected three student board members for the 2026-27 school year.

CTE lead Miss Murray said the two-year CTE plan and CLNA identified strengths (strong CTE graduation rates and exceedance of state goals for industry credentials) and five improvement goals including rebranding, expanding work-based learning and internships, adding middle-school CTE exposure via a CTE Exploratory Academy, and strengthening business partnerships. She said an aviation academy will add a drone technology pathway enabling students to pursue FAA credentials. "We plan on strengthening our aviation academy by implementing a drone technology pathway," Murray told the board.

The board moved to approve the CTE local application for submission to the state.

Curriculum staff presented two curriculum quotes supporting inclusive extended-content curriculum and supplemental resources for occupational course-of-study students. Exceptional children staff presented contracts for speech, occupational therapy and physical therapy; Tamarelli said projected costs for in-person speech services were reduced by approximately $1,000,000 compared with previous projections. Tamarelli also gave service projections: about 350 students for speech services, roughly 75 to 100 for occupational therapy and about 15 for physical therapy. The board approved the EC contracts; the meeting record shows one recusal on that vote.

Vice Chair Perez led the student board member selection process and the board approved nominations for Anila Spencer (Northeastern High School), Victoria Stafford (Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Early College) and Jaden Mendoza (Pasquotank County High School) in open session.
