ECPPS board approves insurance renewals, freezer purchase; hears first read on fixed-assets policy

At its May 26 meeting, the Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools Board approved several routine business items: insurance renewals, a purchase of a walk-in freezer/cooler for Pasquotank Elementary School, and heard a first reading of a revision to Policy 83.50 (Fixed Assets Inventory).
Miss Tilly presented two insurance renewals through the North Carolina School Boards Trust and cited renewal figures during her presentation, including $30,171 and $15,430; she said additional quotes will be shared in June. "We had hoped to have other insurance renewal quotes tonight, but they did not come in, so I'll have more in June," she said.
The board then considered an added new-business item: a purchase request from school nutrition to replace the walk-in freezer/cooler at this building. Miss Reinhart said three quotes were solicited and that the district selected Singer; Vice Chair Pam Perez moved to approve the purchase and the board voted unanimously.
Miss Haines presented a first read of Policy 83.50 to increase the capitalization threshold for fixed assets from $5,000 to $10,000, which she said is "allowed and recommended." The policy presentation was recorded as a first read only; no final action on that policy was taken on May 26.
All motions reported in these items were approved by show-of-hands; the meeting then moved toward closed session.
