On May 26, 2026, the Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools Board of Education approved proposed revisions to Policy 61.40 during its unfinished-business portion of the agenda. The revisions were presented as changes to align local policy language with the North Carolina State Board of Education policy.
The presenter explained the edits were intended "to align the wording in section d number 3 with ... section 5 number 5" of the referenced state board policy and that the district was seeking board action to advance the changes as presented for first reading.
Vice Chair Pam Perez moved to approve the revisions as presented; the motion was seconded and the board recorded a unanimous approval by show of hands.
Board members did not raise substantive objections during the brief discussion. The action moves the revisions forward in the district’s policy process as presented.
