ECPPS board approves 'Option B' for H.L. Trigg under NCDPI alternative-schools accountability

On May 26, 2026, the Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools Board of Education voted unanimously to adopt NCDPI’s alternative-schools modified accountability Option B for the 2026–27 school year for H.L. Trigg Community School.
Miss Griffin, who presented the request, told the board the alternative-schools modified accountability system “was developed to provide additional accountability information on eligible schools to supplement the school performance grade” and that because H.L. Trigg participates in the modified system, ECPPS must submit the option request annually. “With that being said, we are asking that the members of our board take action on this request and move forward with option B,” she said.
Under the option approved, H.L. Trigg’s students’ data will be returned to their base schools within the local education agency; Trigg will be assigned the letter grade of the school that receives the largest share of returned students. The presenter said the system is intended to supplement, not replace, ESSA-required reporting.
Board discussion was brief and procedural. Dr. Williams moved to approve Option B; the motion was seconded and the board signified unanimous approval by show of hands.
The board’s action completes the local submission step for the 2026–27 year; staff noted the district has selected Option B for prior years and will continue to submit the request annually. The policy and reporting change affects how H.L. Trigg’s performance is displayed in state accountability reports for the coming year.
