Several Garfield Heights residents used the public‑comment period on July 14 to press the council for action on recurring neighborhood problems and to request more support for youth programming.
Tanya Parks, who identified her address and long-term residency in Garfield Heights, described repeated flooding at Service Court/North Parkway Drive and said drains and street maintenance have not solved the problem: “When we get a heavy rain ... those drains are not clean ... everything comes down on me,” she told the council and asked the city to repair the street and clean the drains.
Representatives of the Bulldog Bratz and affiliated coaches said they lack indoor practice space and regular access to school and recreation facilities. Latasha Miller asked for “more support from Garfield Heights” so the teams can continue representing the city, and coach William Page described the program’s focus on building character and academic success.
Resident Al Singh offered to volunteer and help organize youth outreach and described previous block parties and free backpack giveaways; council and the mayor’s office urged residents to contact recreation staff (Frankie Hughes) to coordinate access and follow-up. The mayor and staff said they would pursue the concerns and asked commenters to follow up with the appropriate department for concrete next steps.
Council thanked speakers for their time and closed the comment period, inviting those with unresolved issues to meet with staff after the meeting.
