City parks staff described a concept to transform Memorial Park’s holiday presentation into a walk-through experience with a single-color palette for most fixtures and the tree as the primary colored focal point.
Staff said the idea would allow visitors to park, walk through staged photo opportunities and use electronic overlays that place festive characters into user photos. "We’re gonna try to put something together as an initial look," the staff member said, and they hoped to present ideas in December for the next year’s budget.
Why it matters: the plan aims to create a distinct, higher-quality attraction that could draw visitors to downtown and support local businesses during the holiday season. Staff suggested reusing existing decorations as a drive-through option and adding new interactive photo backdrops to increase engagement.
Next steps: staff will continue developing a more detailed concept and budget for members to review and to include in next year’s budget planning.
