Tyngsborough proclaims itself a Purple Heart community

On July 13 the Tyngsborough Select Board voted 5–0–0 to adopt a proclamation to make the town a Purple Heart community. Town Manager Colin Loisel said the designation affirms the town’s support for service members wounded or killed in combat and would be accompanied by a state legislative resolution and an observance of Purple Heart Day on Aug. 7.
Loisel told the board the town’s veterans agent proposed the designation and included sample sign language and an estimate that purchasing and installing signs on major thoroughfares would cost under $400. "If the board is inclined to take action on it tonight, there is included in your packet a proclamation," Loisel said; a board member moved to adopt the proclamation as printed and the motion passed without further discussion.
The proclamation will be signed after the meeting and the administration will follow up with Representative Colin Gary to initiate the legislative piece. The board also discussed using a public‑awareness campaign to reach local Purple Heart recipients who may not be on the town’s benefits rolls so they can be recognized in future observances.
