Bonham adopts Lake Bonham rules as residents raise dumping and crop-dusting concerns

The Bonham City Council on June 8 approved an ordinance establishing uniform rules and operational regulations for city parks and for the Lake Bonham Recreation Area, including campsite classifications, reservation and check-in procedures, occupancy limits, vehicle and pet requirements, and sanitation standards.
Sarah Osburn summarized the ordinance’s provisions and answered council questions about overflow parking and signage. The ordinance authorizes administrative implementation through a set of Lake Bonham Rules, Regulations and Standards that will govern camping and recreational-vehicle use.
The ordinance approval followed a public comment period earlier in the meeting during which several residents raised concerns specific to Lake Bonham: Robert Lee asked about the legality of dumping old trees in Lake Bonham and described an ongoing issue with an individual; Aaron Heitman said he had concerns about how the city regulates his land at Lake Bonham; and other residents raised complaints about crop-dusting planes flying very low and late at night (comments from Lisa Acquaviva and Rusty Deets). Council took no immediate enforcement action in response to the public comments at this meeting but adopted the Lake Bonham rules to provide a consistent regulatory framework.
What’s next: staff will implement the new rules and signage as described; residents seeking enforcement or legal clarity about dumping or aviation issues will need to follow up with city code enforcement or other appropriate agencies.
