Westford AgCom approves minutes, addresses finance records, compost volunteering and beekeepers’ memberships

At its May 4, 2026, meeting the Westford Agricultural Commission approved meeting minutes, reviewed finance-recording issues and received reports from the compost and beekeepers committees.

Minutes: The commission approved the March 2026 meeting minutes on a motion moved by Sharon Chew and seconded by Joana Liu Donaher; the minutes record Pooja Kapoor abstained. The April 2026 minutes were approved after Joana requested two revisions (add wait list count and include Joyce as an attendee); those revisions will be incorporated. The meeting adjourned at 9:00 p.m. on a motion moved by Mark O’Lalor and seconded by Joyce Bruno.

Finance: Mark O’Lalor introduced a Finance Committee report. Pooja Kapoor said there was confusion about how check payment turnovers were recorded versus Unipay e-payments; she spoke with Hannah Moller, the town treasurer, and said she now understands the new process and expects the issue to be resolved by the next AgCom meeting.

Compost: Sharon Chew reported that a volunteer team of four set up a T-post and a screen to facilitate sifting, placed caution tape around a two-bay compost area, will provide a June–September schedule and volunteer counts to Pooja, and noted logs are still needed for composting operations.

Beekeepers: Joana Liu Donaher said 2026 membership applications for the Westford Community Beekeepers are due May 11; there are six active beekeepers, four observers and seven active hives, with one beekeeper possibly adding one or two hives later. Pooja will brief Joana on submitting membership dues to the town office.

What’s next: administrative follow-up includes incorporating the requested minute revisions, resolving the Unipay/check recording question with the town treasurer, and Pooja receiving schedules and counts for compost volunteer planning.
