District begins mental‑health framework review, opens 4K registration

District leaders told the board Jan. 7 that 4K registration opened in January and families may register either on paper or online, and that staff have begun a districtwide review of mental‑health supports with guidance from external facilitation.

The people‑services lead said a multidisciplinary team — including counselors, psychologists, social workers, the school nurse, program support teachers, administrators and directors — met in December to begin a comprehensive review of mental‑health services and identify gaps and potential enhancements. “We have our mental health a comprehensive mental health framework in place and, looking for any gaps or places where we can make some enhancements,” the presenter said.

Separately, the director of teaching and learning described outreach and transition work for incoming 9th graders and explained MLSS (multi‑level systems of support), the district’s tiered approach formerly referred to as RTI, which uses universal instruction and increasingly intensive interventions based on data and teacher input.

District staff said the mental‑health and MLSS reviews aim to increase student engagement and graduation rates while reducing restrictive placements, and promised updates to the board as work continues. No specific new program funding or staffing changes were announced at the meeting.
