The New London School District will post the New London High School principal position this week, Superintendent Scott told the board Jan. 7, laying out a roughly four‑ to six‑week timeline for candidates and interviews.
Scott said the posting would run for about two weeks, through Jan. 29, with first‑round interviews planned for Feb. 4 or 5 and a second round of interviews and board involvement targeted for mid‑February (Feb. 10–12 or nearby dates). The superintendent said the goal is to bring a finalist or finalists to the full board for action at the Feb. 25 meeting.
Scott described an interview structure that would include district directors, building administrators and high‑school staff on the first‑round panels, with one or two board members serving as a conduit between rounds and the full board participating in the second round. “We'll pride ourselves on being open and transparent and communicative with every step of the way,” Scott said.
Board members discussed whether one or two board members should participate in early interviews and urged flexibility to accommodate schedules. Several board members volunteered to participate in interviews if their calendars allow.
If the interview team reaches consensus on a candidate following the second round, Scott said he will negotiate contract terms and bring a recommendation to the board for formal approval. The board did not take a final vote on an individual hire at the Jan. 7 meeting; the action was limited to approving the timeline and recruiting process.
