Giddings council approves Holiday Market and a private family street closure this summer

The Giddings City Council on June 23 approved two special-event permits: a public Holiday Festival and Christmas Market presented by the Giddings Economic Development Corporation and a private family-day street closure requested by Kala Green.
GEDC Director Lori Diez described the Holiday Festival and Christmas Market planned for Nov. 28, 2026, from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., including a lighted parade and decorative lighting ceremony; the council approved the Special Event "Public" application. Lori Diez noted the GEDC will not hold Oktoberfest this year and is organizing the holiday event instead.
Interim City Manager Heather Garner presented the private-event request from Kala Green to close W. Washington Street from N. Caldwell to N. Waco on Saturday, July 18, 2026, from 6 p.m. to midnight. Kala Green told council she had notified nearby neighbors and that the family had held the event previously without problems. Director of Public Services Kenny Ray confirmed the city's barricade plan and asked whether the Greens would place and pick up barricades as agreed; Kala Green said that would work.
Both permits were approved by unanimous vote. The minutes record that the city will provide barricades for the July event, with the Greens placing them on the event day and retrieving them the following Monday.
Approved events will still be subject to normal public-safety and permitting requirements as enforced by city staff.
