Osceola outlines Gateway Park plans: playgrounds, dog park, trees and a near-quarter-mile trail

Todd, the village public-works representative, summarized the Gateway Park plan and showed staff-compiled visuals and a wish list drawn from public outreach. “We have a dog park going in…we have on there 31 trees,” Todd said, describing a layout with north-side playground structures, a dog area near Airport Road, and a potential quarter-mile accessible walking path.
Staff said one playground (ages 5–12) is already on order and the board discussed adding a separate 2–5 playground and a small dog area within the dog park. Bids for fencing and other site work are in but not finalized; staff said they would bring a more detailed design to the board in August so the public can review scaled drawings rather than the current visualization map.
Board members and residents discussed parking, orientation of the facilities relative to Mill Street and Airport Road, screening between homes and the park, and the potential for community build events for the smaller playground to reduce costs. Staff confirmed 20 trees have been installed to date with another 11 planned and noted a priority on shade elements and a small 10-by-10 double-gated entry area to minimize off-leash escapes.
What happens next: staff will finalize bid details and return with more concrete plans and a recommended funding path and timeline.
