District highlights CTE growth; plans cosmetology pilot and expanded apprenticeships

District CTE staff reported on Feb. 23 that career and technical education enrollment, concentrator counts and workplace-learning opportunities are growing despite overall declining district enrollment.
Derek Singer, the districts career pathways adviser, told trustees the district reported 532 CTE concentrators in 2024-25, increased internships and apprenticeship placements (202 reported), and measurable growth in dual-credit participation. Staff described 10 student-run businesses and a broad set of industry partners providing workplace experiences and potential apprenticeship pathways.
Looking ahead, the district said it plans to pilot a cosmetology pathway in response to student interest and to continue discussions with industry about HVAC training and apprenticeships. Staff and trustees emphasized that continued partnership with local employers and Great Falls College will be essential to sustaining CTE expansion and meeting workforce needs.
Trustees thanked staff and recognized CTE as a key strategy to connect students to local careers.
