Westchester schedules hearings on data‑center zoning and tobacco/smoke‑shop regulations

Council President Nicole Shamooni announced two upcoming public hearings: a July 15 hearing on amendments to borough zoning that would add definitions and regulations for 'data center' and 'data center campus,' permit such uses by conditional use in the industrial district, and adopt related area and bulk regulations; and an Aug. 19 hearing on amendments to define 'retail store or shop' and add 'tobacco store/smoke shop' with conditional-use permission in Town Center and Commercial Service districts.
Shamooni summarized the ordinance language and chapter references and said the hearings will provide residents an opportunity to comment before the council acts. "We will have a public hearing…amending the code…to add definitions for data center, data center accessory use, data center campus, and sensitive receptor," she said.
Council did not take final action on the ordinances at the work session; both items were introduced and slated for their respective hearings. Residents who wish to comment can attend the hearings or follow the council agenda materials for the full draft language.
