Montclair NAACP introduces expanded coverage area including Glen Ridge; resident urges more outreach for veterans and homeless

Diane Anglin of the Montclair NAACP introduced herself and said the branch’s catchment area recently expanded to include Glen Ridge and several neighboring towns. "We wanted to come and introduce ourselves," Anglin said, and offered to table at events, meet parents and share information about membership and programs. Council members welcomed the outreach and said the timing was useful given recent changes in the local housing market.
During the second public-comment period a resident described a previously raised complaint involving the library board and said Chief Quinn would be following up; the resident emphasized the importance of police-community partnership and outreach for veterans and people experiencing homelessness. The resident identified a focus on veterans’ needs and noted past involvement with veteran-support networks.
Councilors thanked both the NAACP representatives and the resident for attending and assured them staff and relevant departments would follow up as appropriate; the presiding officer noted some matters (the library complaint) fall under the library board’s authority and recommended pursuing that channel where appropriate.
