Personnel committee approves Lynn Faust as ZBA alternate, forwards appointment to council

The Marlborough City Personnel Committee voted July 14 to approve Lynn Faust as an alternate member of the Zoning Board of Appeals and to forward the nomination to the full City Council for confirmation.

Faust, who previously served on the ZBA and whose résumé highlights an electrical engineering background and years of local board service, told the committee she can "commit to the zoning board of appeals again" and said she "loved serving previously." The mayors appointment letter, read at the meeting, describes Fausts engineering and board experience as an asset to the ZBA.

Councilor David Doucette noted Fausts nearly 20 years of prior service and asked about her recent nonprofit work; Faust said she now works with the Metro Community Development Corporation, a local nonprofit based on Main Street that provides self-sufficiency programming and serves about 2,500 people per year. Council President Michael Ossing asked whether Faust would be interested in a full ZBA vacancy; Faust said she would consider a permanent seat depending on meeting frequency and her schedule.

Committee members asked whether Fausts current work would create a conflict with zoning duties; Faust replied most of her work is outside Marlborough and unrelated to zoning. After brief discussion the committee made and carried a motion to approve Faust as an alternate; members agreed to suspend the appointment to place it on the City Council agenda for next Monday for final confirmation.

The committees approval is a recommendation to the City Council; the appointment takes effect only if the council confirms Faust at its next meeting.
