Mission council approves Nov. 3 election, accepts $250,000 resilience-planning grant and clears bids and other routine items

At its July 14 meeting, the Mission City Council moved through a series of formal approvals, unanimously adopting an election resolution and accepting grant funding while also approving event permissions and project solicitations.

Election: Council approved Resolution 2068 to order a general election on Nov. 3, 2026, to elect mayor and council members for places 1 and 3. Staff noted candidate filing will run July 20–Aug. 17.

Grant acceptance: The council accepted a $250,000 award from the Texas General Land Office for the Resilient Communities Program to support planning activities including an updated comprehensive plan covering hazard-risk assessment, housing-stock analysis, infrastructure and zoning work. Staff recommended approval and the council voted to accept the grant; the award carries no local match requirement.

Events and projects: Council granted a variance to Ordinance 2198 to allow a fireworks display during the Pony International Softball World Series opening under Fire Department supervision and authorized solicitation of bids for a roughly quarter-mile Horner Road extension, to be funded with Mission Redevelopment Authority tax-increment contract revenue bond proceeds (Series 2026). Council also approved a consent agenda covering items 9–24 and departmental reports.

Executive session and property sale: The council convened an executive session under Texas Government Code §551.072; after reconvening, members voted to proceed with the sale of 1400 West Ray Circle as discussed in the closed session. The meeting adjourned after the vote.
