Barney Associates auditor Kim Link told the Marysville City Council the firm issued an unmodified opinion on the city’s financial statement for the year ending Dec. 31, 2025, and found no material misstatements or recommendations.
"We did issue an unmodified opinion," Link said during the presentation. She reported the city ended the year with $8,449,507 in unencumbered cash, excluding library funds, and described no negative-cash funds in the statement.
The clean audit means the financial statements were presented in accordance with the regulatory basis of accounting standards prescribed by the state, Link said. She walked the council through statement schedules and noted there were no findings to report.
After the audit presentation the council approved routine business, including the consent agenda and Appropriation Ordinance No. 3876. Council member (by roll call) recorded unanimous support for the ordinance; the clerk announced the tally as 7-0.
Why it matters: A clean audit and positive cash balances provide the council and residents a snapshot of the city’s fiscal health ahead of planned capital projects discussed later in the meeting. The ordinance vote also authorized city spending of $432,001.89 as read at the meeting.
What’s next: Staff will continue project planning and bring budget or contract specifics back to council when bids and engineering estimates are firm.
