Rick Wood reported the county had received two quotes “right around $5,000 a piece” to replace failing sidewalk squares and suggested pulling the work from capital funds. Supervisors debated whether to patch isolated areas or replace contiguous sections up to the property line; they also discussed preserving handicap-accessible approaches and the possibility of adding an adjacent fence project to the same scope.
Separately, staff described ongoing water intrusion around the courthouse, especially at the northwest corner and behind a transformer near the dumpster, where basement window wells and buried legacy features appear to be letting water into server and election equipment storage areas. Several supervisors warned the problem has worsened with heavy rains and said bidding a fix is difficult without a single set of engineering plans.
Members recommended engaging engineering expertise so all bidders would price the same work and suggested the assistant county engineer could help draw plans. The board agreed to inspect the site, gather clearer scope documents and, if necessary, rebid the project with a unified set of plans. No formal appropriation or contract award was completed at this meeting; the board directed staff to return with a written scope and budget recommendation.
