Planning commission approves temporary travel-trailer permit at Cordova Industrial Park

The Cordova Planning Commission voted to grant a conditional use permit allowing a travel trailer to be used as temporary living quarters on Lot 2 A, Block 4 of Cordova Industrial Park at its May 12 meeting.

A committee member moved to approve the application and to adopt the findings and conditions in the staff report; the motion received no public comment and passed by voice vote after commissioners answered clarifying questions. The mover described the request as "pretty straightforward," saying the proposal was consistent with the commission’s code and would "provide security for their construction site," where activity is expected to be heavy.

The commission discussed how long the trailer would remain on site and utility hookups. Staff cited condition 4 of the staff report, saying, "the temporary living quarters must be removed from the lot or vacated at the end of the 12 month period," while noting the applicant had requested a shorter period. Commissioners also asked whether the lot would accommodate an RV plus construction equipment; staff pointed to the site diagram in the application packet and said the drawing indicates space and that the applicant is investigating connections to the city of Florence.

Commissioners who spoke said having on‑site living for workers can make construction logistics easier while also improving site security. One commissioner voiced concern about hookups and duration; that question was resolved by referencing the staff report conditions rather than modifying the motion.

The commission approved the permit by voice vote; the chair called for "aye," heard no opposition and declared the motion passed. The staff conditions adopted with the approval will govern the permit, including the requirement that temporary living quarters be removed or vacated after 12 months.
