Superintendent highlights BusRite bus‑tracking pilot, finance hires and summer programs

Superintendent Marcus Myers opened a superintendent spotlight to preview a series of monthly reports and to introduce staff and recent district initiatives.

Myers introduced two members of the finance team — Austin Kohout, joining from the State Department of Education as finance director, and Karalissa Morgan, the accounting director — and said the finance team will work to ensure the district sticks to its approved budget while looking for additional revenue.

Assistant Superintendent Brian Graves described a pilot of a parent app called BusRite that staff tested this summer. Graves said the system allows students to scan on and off buses, provides driver navigation and live GPS tracking, and gives parents real‑time visibility into where a bus is and how fast it is moving: "So parents will be able to track their kids on the bus... The live GPS tracking, real time visibility, parents are gonna know where their kids are, how fast the bus is going," he said. Graves noted substitute drivers will also be tracked and that staff will bring route maps next month for formal trustee approval.

Myers also previewed a communications infographic showing the taxpayer portion of school funding has fallen over the past three years because of increased state funding; staff will distribute the infographic with talking points to help explain property tax assessments to patrons.

Myers closed by noting summer learning and enrichment opportunities for students, praising maintenance and custodial staff for facility readiness, and saying the superintendent spotlight will continue at future meetings.
