North East hears updates on Preserve proposal, street signs, cameras and staffing

Town officials used the Oct. 8 meeting to update the Board on planning, infrastructure and staffing matters affecting the town.
Mayor Kelly Benson said he has met with town administration about a proposal from landscape architects YSM for the North East Preserve Project and urged keeping related projects moving forward. Town Administrator Melissa Cook‑MacKenzie told the board that an on‑site audit was completed and that she has met with the Director of Planning on issues including an annexation, a property at the interchange and the Comprehensive Plan. She said follow‑up is planned with the North East Isles Board about an easement on Lot 98.
Assistant Town Administrator Grant Handley outlined several infrastructure items: stop signs were installed in Ridgely Forest and additional traffic improvements are being planned; Lock‑Up restoration continues with the HVAC installed and electrical work pending; camera coverage now exists along South Main Street with work on North Main planned; and a new wayfinding sign sample has been received. Handley also said Rave Mobile enrollment flyers were included in the most recent water‑bill mailing and that staff are working to meet the Oct. 31 MS4 report deadline.
Cook‑MacKenzie said advertising for the Director of Finance position is under way and that interviews for a Water Plant candidate are expected to fill that department. On unfinished business she said she will meet with the town attorney on Oct. 10 to review documents related to the Artesian Interconnection Agreement Rate; those materials will be provided to the board once reviewed.
Under miscellaneous items, Handley presented designs for new street signs to be installed across town, and Cook‑MacKenzie advised the board that T‑Mobile will be upgrading some equipment at the Bay View Water Tower. No formal action on these infrastructure items was recorded at the meeting.
The board discussed but did not finalize human resources or code‑compliance job descriptions; the HR package will be presented at a future meeting.
