Kenly staff outlines election certification and swearing-in plans

Town staff reminded residents that Johnston and Wilson counties run municipal elections and that results are final only after state certification; the council set Dec. 8 as the next meeting when newly elected members will be sworn in individually by authorized officials and new business will follow.
Town staff told the council on Nov. 10 that the town contracts with the Johnston County and Wilson County Boards of Elections to administer municipal elections and that results are not final until certified by the State of North Carolina.
Interim Town Manager Tony Sears said inquiries about fluctuating results should be directed to the respective county boards. The council noted the next regular meeting on Dec. 8 will open early for mingling; that meeting will pause to administer individual swearing-in ceremonies conducted by authorized officials (judges, magistrates, register of deeds or clerks), after which the council will resume business. Staff said refreshments will be provided during the reception.
