Kenly council adopts street-closure ordinances for Christmas events and approves 2026 meeting, holiday schedules

The Kenly Town Council on Nov. 10 adopted temporary road-closure ordinances for two December holiday events and approved the town—s meeting and holiday schedules for 2026.
Interim Town Manager Tony Sears detailed the requested NCDOT closures for the Christmas Parade on Thursday, Dec. 4 (including portions of Alfred Avenue, Pope, SR 222 and SR 301 from 5:30 to 9 p.m., and Second Street from South Wilson to North Englewood from 4 to 9 p.m.) and for Christmas on Main on Saturday, Dec. 6 (closures including First Street, Garner Avenue, SR 222 to SR 301, Corbett Street and Railroad Avenue from 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.). The council adopted Ordinance #2025-11-02 (Christmas Parade) and Ordinance #2025-11-03 (Christmas on Main), each by 3-0 votes.
Council also reviewed and adopted the 2026 Town Council meeting schedule and holiday observance schedule (Resolutions 2025-0801 and 2025-0802). Town staff noted the town follows the State of North Carolina—s holiday schedule.
The council asked members to confirm parade participation and vehicle needs; staff said coordination assistance would be provided, and the town will host a reception at Legion Hall Dec. 2 to honor Grand Marshal George Arrant followed by a tree-lighting at town hall.
