Council approves Ultrasports management and Altra naming-rights deals; signage and maintenance terms agreed with caveats
Summary
Council approved the Ultrasports Complex management agreement and an Altra naming-rights agreement after staff described compromises on sign replacement cost-sharing and maintenance responsibilities; one maintenance-responsibility issue remains for later clarification with the park district.

The City Council approved two related items for the Ultrasports Complex: a management-and-operations agreement and a naming-rights agreement negotiated with Altru/Altra.
Dan Gostad reviewed outstanding points on both agreements. On the management agreement, Gostad said no substantive changes had been made since the committee-of-the-whole and that the foundation will make a donation but prefers not to remain a long-term party after contributing funds.
On the Altra naming-rights agreement, Gostad said several scrivener errors were corrected and parties resolved a competitor-definition question. The main substantive compromise addressed capital expenditures to replace worn exterior signage: the city and Altra would split certain replacement costs 50/50 when both parties agree replacement is warranted. Gostad explained that Altru/Altra remains responsible for sign changes tied to corporate rebranding or logo changes, while the proposed 50/50 split applies when replacement is simply due to age.
A remaining unresolved matter concerned day-to-day maintenance and repair expenses (for example, bulb changes). Under the proposed language, the park district would pick up the first $5,000 of those expenses and the city would pay amounts above that; Gostad said the park district was actively involved in negotiating the terms because it has operational obligations under the management agreement.
Councilors expressed appreciation for the work and approved the agreements by voice vote.
