Stamping Ground seeks county funds to resurface Commonwealth Drive

On Oct. 1, 2024, the Stamping Ground city commission voted unanimously to submit a County Priority Projects Program (CPPP) application seeking funds to resurface Commonwealth Drive and the access road to the Fire Department training center. The motion, made by Commissioner Billy Swartz and seconded by Mayor Keith Murphy, passed 5-0.
Commissioner Swartz requested a contractor quote and said he would provide photographs to document the need. The resurfacing application is intended to address roadway deterioration affecting emergency access to the training center and general traffic safety.
During the same New Business discussion, Commissioner David Clark raised safety concerns about trees and bushes behind City Hall that are obscuring the propane tanks. The commission agreed to contact the city’s insurance carrier to clarify responsibility, speak with the adjacent property owner, and have Commissioner Swartz obtain a survey quote to inform next steps. No formal action on the vegetation was recorded; the CPPP application was the item the commission voted to advance.
The item will return for follow up as staff and commissioners gather quotes, photos and any required survey information.
