Occoquan council adopts ordinance on accessory dwellings and accessory buildings

The Occoquan Town Council voted unanimously on Sept. 17 to adopt Ordinance O-2024-03, which updates town rules for accessory dwellings and accessory buildings.
Vice Mayor Jenn Loges asked whether the proposed changes to the code would conflict with the town’s Home Occupancy Certificate rules. Town Manager Adam Linn responded that the ordinance would not permit nonresidential uses in a residence and therefore should not conflict with the Home Occupancy rules as written.
The motion to adopt O-2024-03 was moved by Vice Mayor Jenn Loges and seconded by Councilmember Nancy Freeborne Brinton. The ordinance passed by roll call vote with affirmative votes recorded from Vice Mayor Loges, Councilmember Eliot Perkins, Councilmember Freeborne Brinton, Councilmember Cindy Fithian and Councilmember Theo Daubresse; there were no votes against the measure.
The council made no changes to the measure on the floor and took no separate public comment on the ordinance at the meeting. The matter was recorded as adopted as presented.
