Planning commission appoints Commissioner Bowden to County Affordable Housing Advisory Board; alternate named

At its July 13 meeting the Hillsborough County planning commission appointed Commissioner Bowden to serve as its member on the County Affordable Housing Advisory Board and named Commissioner Sink as the alternate. Melissa Zornita, the planning commission’s executive director, explained the term is three years and that the appointment must be confirmed by the Board of County Commissioners.
Zornita told commissioners that a BOCC policy generally imposes a moratorium on confirmations within 90 days of an election, so the BOCC clerk expects these confirmations may not be acted upon until November. "We will be down a member for a while," she said, but staff recommended making the appointment now and transmitting it to the BOCC.
The commission took a roll-call vote to appoint Commissioner Bowden, with the motion carrying 9–0. The commission then approved Commissioner Sink as the alternate by a 9–0 vote.
The appointee will serve the three-year term required by state statute; staff will forward the appointment to the BOCC for confirmation when its calendar permits.
