At the meeting the board moved to accept Tench's resignation and then passed Resolution 24-02 honoring his contributions, including state-level advocacy with the Alaska Association of School Boards and his service as board president since November 2019. The resolution was read aloud by a trustee and approved by the board.
In his remarks Tench thanked colleagues and urged the board to remain a moderating force focused on students and to avoid political divisiveness. Trustees offered tributes noting his steady leadership, committee work and long-term contribution to the district.
Superintendent Dan and colleagues noted Tench's statewide advocacy and committee work during the reading of the resolution. The resignation triggers the board's vacancy policy; the board discussed timing for interviewing and appointing a replacement before the September meeting so the appointee could be seated prior to the forthcoming election period.
