The board moved unanimously to formally request a letter of commitment from the Board of Supervisors to accompany CCPS’s July 27 SCAP application; staff pledged to submit the application by July 27 regardless of whether a response is received. “We will still submit the grant by July 27,” staff said during the meeting.
VPSA technology bond: The board also unanimously approved a Virginia Public School Authority (VPSA) technology bond reimbursement resolution for $180,000 plus a 20% local match to comply with federal reimbursement rules and support technology purchases tied to state requirements for online testing.
CTE course proposals and partnerships: The board heard a first read of proposed new CTE courses — Heavy Equipment (site development/earthmoving) and Electricity I & II — tied to partnerships with Allen Myers (heavy civil construction) and MCD (electrical engineering/critical infrastructure). Staff said MOUs, classroom space plans and equipment procurement are next steps; partners will present to the board in August. Board members suggested staff include resource and cost details in follow‑up materials and explore regional partners such as Germanna and a VDOT workforce center for equipment access.
Next steps: Staff will request the county commitment letter for SCAP, submit the SCAP application by July 27, finalize VPSA paperwork, and return in August with formal CTE partnership introductions and implementation details.
