The Hazen City Commission on Wednesday approved a series of routine and operational items including event permits, Renaissance loan/building permits, an equipment purchase and a traffic-control change aimed at improving ambulance access.
The commission approved two event permits for the Hayes and Lance Club after staff said the permits would be forwarded to the attorney general for review. Committee member (speaker 5) moved the permit approvals and the Chair called the motion; no substantive opposition was recorded.
Commissioners then ratified Renaissance loan/building permit applications for Victor and Wanda Hensel and Walton and Andrea Van Dyke. A roll-call vote recorded Weirick Aye, Folker Aye, Stern No and Shephrow Aye; the motion carried.
Operational votes included authorization to purchase a replacement floor scrubber for city hall from the general-fund equipment line; staff advised the old unit had little resale value because parts are unavailable. The scrubber purchase passed on roll call (Diedrich Aye, Walkers Aye, Stern Aye, Shefra Aye).
The commission approved an updated GSA mileage reimbursement rate (the mileage rate rose by 2.5 cents) by roll call. The commission also approved routine bills, transfers and financial statements by roll call at the meeting’s close.
On property sales, staff reported two identical bids for a city parcel. Commissioners agreed to reject the two bids and reopen the sale so the two highest bidders may rebid or increase their offers; the motion to reject and reopen passed on voice vote.
Finally, commissioners amended traffic controls at the hospital intersection so that 7th Street will have stop-sign priority rather than 8th Avenue to give emergency vehicles a straighter route. The motion instructed staff to implement the change as soon as feasible but no later than June 1; it passed on a voice vote.
The commission held no public commenters during the allotted comment period. The meeting concluded after the roll-call approval of bills and financial statements.
