Angel Fire advisory committee adopts mission statement to guide airport decisions

The Angel Fire Airport Advisory Committee reviewed and adopted a drafted mission statement that defines the body as a citizen-based advisory panel to advise the village on airport operations, planning, development and policy.

Acting chair Glenn Tillery read the mission statement and outlined the committee’s purpose: to provide informed guidance, promote communication between the airport and the community, and support the airport’s safety, operational efficiency and economic value. Members discussed differences between an "advisory committee" and a separate airport authority and confirmed the advisory committee structure aligns with village governance and existing bylaws.

A motion was made to accept the draft mission statement for the airport advisory committee and forward it to the village council for approval; the motion was seconded and the committee voted in favor. One member noted the draft is the first clear, "black-and-white" document they've seen on committee role and structure in recent years.

The committee also discussed membership terms—appointments by the mayor, two-year service terms and potential roles for residents, business representatives and aviation stakeholders—and agreed the draft should move forward to the council for final approval.

The committee tabled an operations/standards manual to allow members time to review that larger document before the next meeting.
