Angel Fire airport reports PAPI installed, beacon operating and fuel pad finished; hangar door repairs remain

At the Angel Fire Airport Advisory Committee meeting, staff reported several operational updates: runway edge lighting has been operating for about eight months, a new PAPI system is installed but awaiting FAA flight-check certification, the airport beacon is functioning after 12 years, Bixby Electric repaired ramp lighting, the fuel containment pad construction is complete, and a new hangar door is temporarily on emergency power pending electrical repairs.

A technical speaker explained the PAPI installation is complete but not yet certified: "We have our application in FAA for a flight check," the staff member said, noting the airport is awaiting scheduling and that the existing PLASI will remain until FAA checkout is finished. The committee welcomed the beacon resuming operation and thanked Bixby Electric for ramp lighting repairs and new photocells that prevent round-the-clock operation.

The new hangar door is about 70% raised but is currently on emergency power; staff said they are delaying frequent use until an electrician completes permanent wiring to avoid burning circuits. The fuel containment pad—funded under a separate grant—was reported ready and only minor painting remains.

Separately, committee members said they are awaiting county-level guidance to access a snow-removal grant procured through Senator Heinrich’s office because the grant was awarded to the county rather than the village. That process may delay acquisition or use of snow-clearing equipment beyond the current season.

Committee members and staff emphasized that some projects are constrained by external approvals and county-level administration; they said legal and grant documents are ready where feasible and they will proceed when approvals and guidance arrive.

The committee moved on to other business after these operational updates.
