Lake Country School District board approves open-enrollment seats, 2026–27 calendar and two cooperative agreements

The Lake Country School District Board on Jan. 19 approved a package of routine actions that set open-enrollment limits, adopted next year’s school calendar and authorized two interdistrict cooperative agreements.

Pete Maurer, board chair, called the regular meeting to order at 5:45 p.m. and the board adopted the agenda on a unanimous vote. During the public-comment period, community member Kelly Hoesly said a new website, LCS4Kids, is up and running to help inform parents about the district referendum. "LCS4Kids is designed to get accurate information out to parents ahead of the vote," Hoesly said.

The board then heard administrative updates. Administrator Chad Schraufnagel noted a teacher work day scheduled for Feb. 19 and said staff are working on the busing plan for the 2026–27 school year and provided an update on Arrowhead consolidation planning. On formal actions, the board approved Resolution 1258 determining open-enrollment space for regular education for 2026–27. The board approved Resolution 1259 governing open-enrollment space for students with disabilities and moved to close certain specialized program placements to open enrollment for 2026–27 because of lack of space. The minutes list Cross Categorical, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy and Speech and Language as closed with 0 open-enrollment seats for each program. Jhawn Newman moved the motion; Matt Sherman seconded; action recorded 4–0.

Resolution 1260 formally adopted the 2026–27 school calendar as presented (Attachment A). Resolution 1261 approved a 66.030 cooperative agreement with North Lake to provide a shared school psychologist position (Attachment B). Resolution 1262 authorized participation in a Summer School Cooperative under a 66.030 agreement (Attachment C). Each resolution passed unanimously (4–0) with motions and seconds recorded in the minutes.

The board convened in closed session at 6:18 p.m. under Wis. Stat. §19.85(1)(c) to consider employment and personnel matters; the roll-call vote to enter closed session was 4–0 (motion: Steve Maurer; second: Jhawn Newman).
