Petroleum County commissioners approve agenda and routine business; courthouse demolition to begin

Petroleum County Commissioners met Dec. 9, 2024, at the county courthouse in Winnett and conducted routine administrative business, approved an amended agenda and prior mid-month minutes, and received updates on public safety, roads and a courthouse renovation project.
Commissioner Paul McKenna moved to approve the amended agenda; Commissioner Craig Iverson seconded and the motion carried. McKenna then moved to approve the Oct. 24, 2024 mid-month meeting minutes; Iverson seconded and the motion carried. Later in the meeting Iverson moved to review and approve timecards, payroll and claims; McKenna seconded and the motion carried.
Clerk Jess Hoge reported on a meet-and-greet with the countys new auditor. In the commissioners reports, Sigrid Pugrud said county bookkeeping training will begin in early January with Nancy Everson and Darla L. Rickson assisting staff.
In a project briefing, Brad Kahler outlined plans for a "kick-off construction meeting" to coordinate processes during the courthouse renovation. Kahler said demolition should begin before the end of the year and identified Cody Hammel as the project manager for TW Ridley Clark. Sheriff Dan Linder will serve as the county representative to verify invoices and that work conforms to work orders.
The meeting recorded no public comments during the public-comment period. The board adjourned at 2:30 p.m.
Next steps: staff will proceed with the construction kick-off and demolition scheduling and follow the county's procurement and invoice-verification processes for the renovation project.
