Petroleum County commissioners adopt regional hazard plan and approve amendment to road levy call

Petroleum County Commissioners met Aug. 9 in Winnett and voted to adopt the 2023 Central Montana Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan and to approve an amendment to an earlier resolution concerning a proposed road mill levy.
Commissioner Craig Iverson moved to adopt Resolution 2024‑20, "Adopting the 2023 Central Montana Region Hazard Mitigation Plan," and Commissioner Paul McKenna seconded; the motion carried. Earlier in the meeting Paul McKenna moved (Craig Iverson seconded) to adopt Resolution 2024‑19, described in the minutes as "an Amendment Resolution Calling for Amending Resolution 2024‑14 Calling an Election for 35‑ Mills to the Road Department;" that motion also carried.
The commissioners also approved mailing noncompliance letters to five landowners whose properties are within the county floodplain. The minutes record that the board reviewed a possible fee schedule for floodplain permits but do not record a final adopted fee schedule; commissioners discussed options and next steps.
Commissioners noted the end of the county weed‑spraying season and discussed whether to continue offering private spraying through the county; a future policy was discussed that would limit county spraying to county roads and Montana Highway easements.
The actions leave in place the adopted hazard mitigation plan and advance the procedural step to amend the prior road‑levy resolution. The meeting adjourned at 2:44 p.m.
