Superintendent reports demolition, equipment moves and near-complete auditorium at Taylor County schools

Superintendent Roger D. Cook told the Taylor County Board of Education on July 11 that the district has moved old playground equipment to new sites and will begin demolition soon on the old elementary building. Cook said the district used inmates to remove and salvage items such as toilets, sinks and wood from bleachers where feasible.
Cook said the high school auditorium is about a week away from completion but the sports complex "won't be finished for some time." He also reported that buildings have been deep-cleaned in preparation for the upcoming school year.
Assistant Superintendent Charles Higdon noted that administrators were either on vacation or at training but that the buildings were looking good ahead of the year. The meeting included administrative reports from principals Melissa Long (Primary), Donna Williams (Intermediate), Danita Johnson (Middle) and Laura Benningfield (High). The board adjourned after these routine reports and the previously recorded votes.
