The Taylor County Board of Education on July 11 approved the district’s Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2017, and authorized two pay estimates for the Taylor County High School construction project.
Marcie Close reviewed the financial report for the board. She said the general fund ending balance as of July 11 was $3.2 million and, accounting for expected receivables and payables, the district anticipates a final fund balance of about $3.3 million. Revenues across all funds totaled approximately $30 million and expenses were about $26.7 million, leaving a projected carryover of $3.6 million into 2017–18. Close said the district experienced a decrease in the general fund of roughly $600,000 in 2016–17, driven by costs including a phone-system upgrade, ball-field work, higher utilities and supplies tied to new buildings, high-school utility payments, a band lease payment, additional staff and extracurricular expenses.
The board voted to approve the Annual Financial Report (Order #214). The motion was made by Mr. Robert Clark and seconded by Mr. Jason Cox; Mr. Clark, Mr. Cox and Chair David Hall voted yes, and Mrs. Deanna Hunt was recorded absent.
On construction payments, the board approved Pay Estimate #38 for $24,277.15 (Order #212) on a motion by Mr. Clark with a second from Mr. Cox. The board also approved Pay Estimate #39 for $569,437.22 (Order #213) on a motion by Mr. Cox and a second by Mr. Clark. Both motions passed with the same vote pattern: three yes votes, one absence.
The board recorded the approvals as part of its consent and business agenda; no further conditions or contingencies were noted in the meeting minutes. The meeting adjourned after routine administrative reports and facility updates.
