Echo council approves Echo Days licenses, accepts donations and buys sprayer; clerk reports population of 240

The Echo City Council on June 9 approved a set of routine motions and heard reports on public services and community needs.
Councilman Wyatt Bendix moved to approve liquor and gambling licenses requested by the E.C.H.O. group for the upcoming Echo Days celebration; Councilman Darren Gjerset seconded and the motion carried with Councilman Mark Schettler absent. The council also approved the May 19 regular meeting minutes and Resolution 2026-008 accepting donations after motions by Gjerset and Bendix, respectively; those motions likewise carried with Schettler absent.
Maintenance Supervisor and Fire Chief Bryan Nielsen asked the council to authorize purchase of a 60‑gallon sprayer attachment estimated at $550 to fit the city street sweeper; Councilman Bendix moved and Councilman Gjerset seconded approval and the motion carried with Schettler absent. Nielsen reported completed weed‑spraying on city properties, said he will be out of town June 18–21, and noted ongoing water pressure concerns with Lincoln Pipestone Rural Water that the city is monitoring.
Fire Chief Nielsen also reported the department completed joint firefighter survival training with Wood Lake and Belview, expects to receive a pallet of water through a grant the department obtained, said one person has expressed interest in joining the department, and reminded residents the department will host a pork‑chop feed on Thursday, July 30, from 5–7 p.m.
Clerk Brian Pitzl said he will attend the League of Minnesota Cities conference June 24–26 and that the city office will be closed those days and on July 6. Pitzl reported an updated 2025 population of 240 residents in 106 households and relayed that county officials confirmed a local individual of prior concern is in town and is not subject to local restrictions.
The council received a quote for tree removal and trimming in parts of town and requested more detailed information before taking action. The consent agenda (bills, payroll and bank information) was approved on a motion by Bendix and second by Gjerset. The meeting adjourned at 8:08 p.m.
