Board authorizes advertisement of responsible contractors ordinance for contracts over $250,000

Township Manager Carolyn McCreery presented an ordinance the board could adopt to establish a new chapter of the township code that would set procedures and certification requirements for public contracts valued at $250,000 or more. The ordinance would apply only to public contracts let by the township.
The township solicitor described a common local approach if no responsive bidders meet the responsible-contractor requirements: advertise with the RCO in place, and if no responsive bids are received, the board can waive the RCO by motion and re-solicit. "The only time I can remember that there was not a responsive bid... they waived the RCO by motion," the solicitor said.
After questions about the rubric and the $250,000 threshold, the board voted to authorize the advertisement of Ordinance 26-361; the ordinance will be placed on the Aug. 10 agenda for further consideration and potential adoption.
