Union City Borough Council voted Aug. 13 to hire Mansfield to repair a sinkhole at Municipal Lot #1, approving an estimated $22,295 contract that covers pipe replacement, reconnection of storm lines and a larger catch basin.
Streets Supervisor Bob Phillips reported that the sinkhole had compromised a 24‑inch clay tile and that engineers recommended replacing the tile in sections, reconnecting pipes at the sinkhole to the 24‑inch line, replacing the adjacent catch basin with a larger one and replacing roughly 10 feet of pipe.
Two contractor estimates were presented to councilors: Mansfield at $22,295 and McLallen Construction at $23,450. Phillips said both bids required the borough to provide a truck during the project. Councilor Steadman moved to accept Mansfield’s estimate; Councilor Osborn seconded the motion, which carried unanimously.
The Council approved the work and funding during the meeting; the borough will coordinate scheduling and the provision of a borough truck during construction. The minutes record the vote as unanimous.
