Natchitoches Parish 4‑H reports record enrollment, state awards to students

Pam Pierce and Amanda Clark of Natchitoches Parish 4‑H briefed the board on July 14, reporting record engagement across the parish.

Pierce told board members the program had 1,152 members in the parish this year and said the 4‑H school enrichment work reached 5,742 students. She listed competitive successes: state food challenge champions, two state winners who will advance to national contests in January, regional awards in radio/audio programming, and recognition for volunteerism and inclusion. Pierce said many camp slots were provided through scholarships and that the parish sent 54 students to 4‑H camp last week.

Several youth participants addressed the board. Justin Keller, identified as president of his 4‑H school club, said the organization taught leadership, teamwork and career‑prep skills. Braylee Johnson described representing 4‑H at the state capitol and placing fourth in a state personal‑trainer contest; Amy and Abby Thompson recounted leadership experiences and scholarship support that will help with college costs. Intern Travis Raschel, a former participant now working at the Ag Center, thanked the board and superintendent for support and described his development through the program.

Board members praised the program and encouraged public support and awareness. The presentation concluded with staff and trustees asking the public to follow Natchitoches Parish 4‑H on social media to track student achievements.

The board took no formal action on the presentation; the report served as an informational highlight during the monthly superintendent’s report.
