The Fremont City Council on July 14 advanced four utility rate ordinances for the Fremont Department of Utilities, approving the second readings for electric (Ordinance No. 57‑43), natural gas (57‑44), sewer (57‑45) and water (57‑46) by unanimous 6–0 votes.
Utility Manager Jeff Shanahan told the council the electric ordinance included only clerical corrections — the months that define winter and summer were fixed — and that no substantive changes were made since the first reading. For natural gas, Shanahan said the ordinance reflected the current single‑year rate schedule; sewer and water ordinances likewise carried forward previously discussed adjustments with no new substantive changes.
Several council members praised the utilities staff for maintaining reliable systems. Councilman Horner and Councilman Peterson each highlighted the community benefit of dependable public utilities and said the rates are necessary to preserve infrastructure. No members of the public testified on the ordinances.
All four motions to approve second reading carried 6–0, advancing the ordinances toward final adoption on subsequent council action.
