The Yucaipa-Calimesa Joint Unified School District board on July 14 approved several contracts and moved forward on steps to capture federal tax incentives for a district solar project.
At item 7.07 the board voted to hire Baker Tilly as a tax-consulting adviser for the district’s planned solar installation. Board discussion and staff comments described a multi-step IRS registration and cost-study process. According to staff, the project may qualify for incentive credits up to 40% of eligible costs; staff said a consultant-led cost study will be completed in November and estimated the district might receive roughly $10 million to $13 million in tax-credit reimbursement. The board approved the contract by voice vote (5-0).
Trustees also approved agreements with Harris Computer Corporation to provide software (item 7.08), authorized use of a California Multiple Award Schedules (CMAS) contract for purchasing (item 7.09), and ratified several routine purchases including Advanced Placement exam fees (item 7.10). Motions on Solomon APC (item 7.02) and other consent items carried unanimously.
Board members asked technical questions about the Baker Tilly scope and the timing for an exact credit amount; staff reiterated that the consultant will register the project with the IRS and produce a cost study this fall that will set the final reimbursement number.
The board also voted to rescind a prior authorization to prepare a 2026 general-obligation bond measure (item 7.05), a procedural action that trustees handled as part of the meeting’s business calendar.
What happens next: staff said the district will receive Baker Tilly’s cost-study findings in November and return with a precise estimate of eligible credit amounts before taking further fiscal steps.
