Lake County School Board approves consent agenda and travel requests, honors student athletes

The Lake County School Board unanimously approved the minutes from its March 23, 2026 meeting, accepted the consent agenda items 8.01 through 10.02 and approved travel reimbursements for board members at its April 13 regular meeting.
A travel reimbursement request for School Board Member Tyler Brandenburg to attend the Florida School Boards Association Annual Summer Conference in Tampa (June 2026) was read into the record with a fiscal impact of $879.08 from the General Fund school board budget and approved by voice vote (5-0). An identical request for School Board Member Molly Cunningham to attend the same conference was presented and approved; board members noted a slight cost difference described in the discussion as "a nickel more." The board approved both travel items by unanimous voice votes.
The meeting opened with a series of recognitions. Patrick Dodd, athletic director, highlighted East Ridge High School weightlifting champions Molly O'Hara (FHSA Class 3A, 129 lb) and Amira Newton (154 lb) and read their lift totals. Dodd also recognized coaches and members of the Tavares Unified Basketball team for back-to-back FHSA Class 3A state championships and praised district staff who support unified teams.
Dr. Johnson provided the education report, announcing volunteer recognition events on April 28, a scholarship breakfast on April 29 recognizing more than 60 students, and a live student-astronaut broadcast selection for May 8. The superintendent offered closing remarks, including condolences to families of district employees and recognition of staff finalists and awardees.
The board heard additional public comments and offered several board member shout-outs before adjourning. All formal votes reported at the meeting were by unanimous voice vote unless otherwise noted.
